Writing Workshops



FAMILY MATTERS: THE FIRST MONDAY CLASS: Ongoing Writing Workshop (Zoom) – Meets The First Monday of every month, 6-8 pm EDT. 2 spaces available beginning Sept 9, 2024. Partical Scholarship available.

Class schedule: September 9, October 7, November 4, December 2, January 6, 2025.


Fee: $750
 
Join us: 5 two-hour workshops will help you bring your stories to life on the page. Foster your creativity and learn the craft of writing: generative writing exercises, meditations, and discussion of assigned short readings. PLUS: Submit your work –each month receive developmental and line editing (1250 words –5 pages double spaced). Whether you write fiction or creative non-fiction, memoir or personal essays, our workshop will help you tap into your experiences and turn them into stories. Short reading material will be sent before each session.

WRITING OUR SECRETS December 8 1-3 pm Hybrid: 155 W 68 st NYC & Zoom

The power of secrets has shaped stories from Shakespeare and the Greeks to Liane Moriarity and Jodi Picoult. A concealed fact– whether hidden or ultimately revealed–can transform a character’s life. In this workshop we will draw inspiration from literature and discuss the use of secrets, lies and suspense in storytelling. Experiment in revealing–or containing– the secrets that shape you and your characters!

To register: two options
1) If you have a work in progress (fiction/non-fiction/essay or memoirand would like feedback: submit up to 10 pages (2500 words double spaced in 12-14 [point type) for line edits and written feedback: $350.
2) Show up without a submission: $250.

* Laura Zinn Fromm is an award-winning journalist with publications The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek (where she was a former reporter and editor) and elsewhere. She is the author of Sweet Survival: Tales of Coping and Cooking.

Writing Our Mothers: Workshop with Esther Cohen – IN PERSON!
JOIN us to write, share (optional) discuss the ways our mothers live on in us!

December 5, 2024 1-2:30 pm EDT
$30 for members, $40 for non members

This workshop, co-led by a psychologist and an author, explores the complexity of mothering and motherhood. Through meditative writing exercises, participants will explore and expand their own complex experience as daughters and/or mothers. Come alone or bring your mother or daughter.
