Rewrite Your Mother-Story and Expand Your Life Thursday, October 20th
7-8pm – ZOOM
$35
Who else is loved so deeply and, conversely, blamed so intensely as one’s mother?  The mother stories we carry can empower or derail us.  Many of us struggle with limiting cultural myths about motherhood and old stories about our mothers that cover hidden longings. Using guided imagery, meditation, journal writing and group processing we will explore our stories and expand your life.

Hello Writers!

Hope you are doing well as we settle into fall. I am back from running a writing retreat in Morocco, where we had a wonderful time, writing, eating, talking about writing, hiking, and seeing the sights. Judy Rabinor and I wanted to tell you about an intensive in person and remoteWednesday, December 7th

The holiday season often brings us moments of anticipation and celebration but, for families struggling with disordered eating, it can be a very stressful time of year.

12-2pm ET
$250.

Amy Bloom’s new masterpiece, IN LOVE: A MEMOIR OF LOVE AND LOSS , will serve as a springboard for this workshop. This profound memoir insists we contemplate questions we avoid: dealing with a terminal diagnosis for ourselves or a loved one–the emotional toll of supporting and grieving a loved one. What questions do we need to ask ourselves? And of those we love? How long do we want to live? How long do we want to be “kept alive?” Excerpts from Bloom’s book will offer prompts to help you dig down deep and examine your thoughts and feelings and, in the process, we will explore crucial storytelling techniques.

This intensive writing retreat will stimulate your imagination and sharpen your writing skills via generative writing exercises and the analysis of Bloom’s storytelling methods. Registration includes submission of your own work: Line edits and written feedback on 10 pages (2,500 words, double spaced, in 12–14-point type). Please read In Love before the workshop.
Submissions can be emailed to both Judy and Laura jrrabinor@gmail.com & zinnfromm@gmail.com To reserve, please Zelle or Venmo @Judith-Rabinor or @Laura_Zinn_Fromm. You can also pay via credit card here.

Questions? Please ask! Thanks, and looking forward to seeing you live or remotely.

Keeping Our Mothers Alive: A Writing Workshop

Please join me and Laura Zinn Fromm on October 22 at the Manhattan JCC, from 5:30 to 7:30, for “Keeping Our Mothers Alive: A Writing Workshop.”

Who else is loved so deeply and blamed so intensely as one’s mother? Whether your mother is dead or alive, the stories you tell about her have a profound impact on how you live your live life. Most mothers are neither “Perfect” nor are they “Mommy Dearest.” These images devalue the complexity of the mothers we have, had and are. In this writing workshop you will be guided through a series of exercises that help you see the complexity of your mother-story.

5 hour intensive:  An In Depth Exploration of Motherhood Through the Life Cycle.

Where else are women loved so much and blamed so intensely as in motherhood? Why is the highest calling so undervalued? We will share our experiences and consider some of the unrealistic and unattainable attitudes surrounding mothering, including those we absorb from our own families, previous generations and from theories that inform as well as limit us, placing an unrealistic burden on motherhood.
