About Judith

“Change your Story, Change your Life!”

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the healing power of telling one’s story. Therapy offers endless possibilities for growth and transformation. So does Writing.

Judith Ruskay Rabinor Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, author, speaker, writing coach and consultant based on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

“People come to my office when they have run out of steam and feel stuck, lost and/or isolated.  What heals all of us is developing deeper connections–to ourselves, others and the universe.”

Judy offers individual, couples, and family therapy, she conducts groups for binge eaters and coaches writers. Her latest book, The Girl in the Red Boots: Making Peace with My Mother (She Writes Press, 2021) is a compelling read blending memoir  and clinical material. Judy is a longtime expert in treating eating and body image disorders, (A Starving Madness: Tales of Hunger, Hope and Healing, Gurze Books, 2002). She also specializes in working with divorcing and remarried families. “Divorce ends a marriage, not a family,” is her philosophy, based on her personal experience co-parenting after divorce and illuminated in her book, Befriending Your Ex After Divorce: Making Life Better for You, Your Kids and Yes, Your Ex, New Harbinger Publications, 2012.)

Whether working with troubled  individuals, couples, families or groups,  Judy’s goal is to help people bring vitality and aliveness into their lives. Her integrative approach involves healing wounds while  acknowledging resources.  In addition to three books, Judy has published dozens of articles, essays and chapters in professional journals, newspapers and magazines. She blogs for The Huffington Post and Psychology Today, is a consultant to The Renfrew Center Foundation, a supervisor at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia and is a sought after media expert, presenter and  workshop leader. She currently teaches The First Monday Monthly Night Writing Group, see WRITING GROUPS  on this website tab.
